Sesame bagels
Simple, satisfying, especially spread with vegan butter and/or jam.
Recipe inspired from Vegan made easy.
Ingredients
- 400g protein-rich wheat flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- 25g margarine
- 250 mL warm water
- sesame seeds to sprinkle on top of bagels before baking
Instructions
- Mix flour with salt in a large bowl.
- In another bowl, melt margarine and add water, sugar, and yeast. Mix well and let the yeast activate for ~15 min.
- Mix everything together and knead until the dough feels elastic and separates easily from the fingers.
- Let dough rise in a warm place until it doubles in size.
- Punch the dough down and let it rise again in a cool (< 10°C) place.
- Bring the dough back at room temperature and let it warm up for ~ 30 min. Then, punch the dough down and shape it into rings (or use a bagel mould if you have one).
- Turn on the oven at 180°C fan on. The bagels will rise a little while the oven is heating up.
- Brush the bagels with plant-based milk (soy, oat, almond, etc.) and sprinkle sesame seeds on top. Bake for ~15 min.
- Let bagels cool down on a rack.
